What do you use for a programmer, Xavier? Do you build your projects with an ICSP port?

Yes I like to use ICSP as this lets me test my project in stages. I have a number of programmers, I got the Microchip programmer with the PicKit2

Everything I build these days has an ICSP port. Won't leave home without it.

In the photos below, the left is a picture of my test bed which can accommodate any PIC at all, any display or keypad and any sized memory. Behind it is a small pulse generator I am using to do waveform analysis inside the PIC18F4685 on the test bed. The right hand photo is a PicKit3.

I see that you have an extension cable for the ICSP connection.........I never thought of doing that but you can bet that I'll be using one very shortly. My clock (Made in Chine) gave up on me the other day so I thought I'd slap one together quickly but this 16F690 is not playing ball with me the way that I wanted it to  Angry I'm having timing issues that I do not have with the 16F877A, the other issue is that I'm adamant on using a 7 segment display (found in some or other device that was found in some or other rubbish dump) had I used an LCD it would have been running by now.

I do have room to plug it in directly but that puts undo stress on the Dupont pins. That development board wasn't terribly expensive but I certainly don't want to buy another or repair it.

I was looking at the price of the pickit 3 here in Belgium and I found that it is about twice the price that I can get it for in SA so next time I go there I'll try to get one.

I have two of them but only use the one. The other is a backup because I simply cannot be without a programmer. I have deadlines, don't you know. But let me point you to one that costs 1/3 of retail with free shipping. Got mine there.

Both of mine came from here. Pretty quick shipping, too. I have a dozen other programmers but use this almost always.
