Is the DD worth in vesting in,,,how much depth do you lose,,,pin pointing i can get around, i Learned from a machine that has no pin point period to be patient. Well with that machine I went to a smaller coil, but only after 3 years of dealing with it. seems to work well with a smaller coil..in spite of no pin point,,,,

In mineralized soil, the DD is fabulous and well worth it overall. As far as pinpointing, when you get used to doing an X pattern over a target, you will soon reduce that to a quick flick in a figure 8 pattern and pinpointing will be a snap. Practice makes perfect. Any depth you lose will be offset by the lack of false targets which can mask a good target. They're very popular with good reason.

The 100+ degree temperature here can wear an old guy out in 30 minutes. Even the dog, who is much younger than me even in dog years gets tuckered much faster in the heat.

Great info!!! Do you think the DD would work with the XLT then, meaning the XLT does not like mineralized soil at all. Dry sand is ok, but mix saltwater with the sand and it does not like it at all so the waters edge is out of the question to hunt. And after a Noreaster which we just so happen to have an abundance of here. Would be ideal. Not to mention a hurricane once in a while.
LOL about the heat. We have an underground cook off going at work,in two locations. So 8 one O cables are fused together, 4 per location, and about 500 feet runs apeice. SO we have been out in the cold from getting to work and going home. Hot by mid day never sounded so gooooood. We have about another day and a half before we will be done with the repairs and five days left of the cold snap. I dont handle the heat as well as i use too, either-but would glady trade.

The DD coil will stop false signals due to the coil imbalances of a mono coil. Mineralized soil can be a problem even though the DD reduces the chatter from it. You should be able to ground balance the rest out. Perhaps you can go to a local metal detector shop and try one out and even buy a second hand one there.

I always want to trade weather. Just ten minutes sometimes is all I really want. Just ten minutes . . .

We're off to the movies this morning. Going to see Have You Heard About the Morgans. It's really air conditioned in there. Love it!

once you get used to using a DD coil it's not so bad with pinpointing.also in northern VA you will get more depth because it helps out with that heavily mineralized soil up there...

I wish there was a topic just for coil makers. I am looking for new ways to build my coils. I like the way you put the mounting bracket on the bottom piece and fed it through. What I would do different is put a connector on the coil instead of running the cable through. I suppose you probably would but didn't have the part. Usually what I have to do, is work with what I have in my shop. Funds sometimes are hard to come by. Nice job and idea.

Hi yourownfree

Thank for your comments, just information to you "If you want to put a connector on the coil" this one can make a bad detection. The connector will be always detect and make noise in the signal detection. That is why the connection is on the box and not on the sensor head. Also the length of cable is taken into account in the resistance of the coil. Good luck

All the best

Luc
