Hi,
The easiest DD coil to build is one for a PI (except for the ML PI's they are a real pain). Unfortunately, most other PI's do not have provisions to use a DD coil but that is solvable, especially if you built your own PI.
Now, if you decide to add the ability to use a DD coil to one of your home made PI's, you will most likely have to modify your wiring of your previous home made coils just a little as well as modify your PI a little. What has to be done is to separate the input circuitry from the transmit to do allow a DD coil to work.
This basic idea shows up on later Hammerhead designs but on the schematic they show a new receive damping resistor. Personally, I feel the receive winding should have its damping resistor inside the coil housing or in the coil plug.
