I wasn't quite sure how this coil would perform. A small 5" search coil for my Mirage PI.
Last year, wound up the coil and there was no coil shells made for it yet. Needed to make one.
A quick way was just make a cheap mold using off the shelf parts.
A piece of formica counter top
Found a juice container at the thrift shop, cut the top section off. Taped it down onto the counter top.
Wiped some mold release wax on the counter top inside of of the mold. Placed another plastic container in the center with a lot of
coins in it for weight, to keep it in place.
Poured the first layer of potting epoxy, after it started to cure, placed the wound coil into position.
Then poured in the final layer of epoxy. Let it fully cure.
Removed the make shift mold and out pops a coil.
Some sanding to final shape, bit of touch up and it was ready for paint.
I used truck bed liner spray paint.
Bingo your done.
This coil works so well on my PI it will rival many 8" coils on a VLF machine.
Pinpoints and separates targets like a concentric coil and is deep. I can hunt a trashy schoolyard with this coil.
I had a bunch of coils shells made...............
