Hello Cornelis,

thank you very much. So I should add a 90? ball valve to the elbow where the air hose plugs in? I assume I am to open it briefly allowing to let air into the main hose whoch will expand and then again shut it again. Hence working with small intervals of opening it?

Regards,

Christian

No Christian you should have a nice even flow of air . Just remember that the air will expand 6 fold .  ( P1 X V1 = P2 X V2 ) . This is if you don't count on the temperature difference . You should find the balance of valve opening and the flow of the water at the surface .   As an example you should think about an aquarium . If you use an undergravel filter there is a standpipe in the corner  . A small plastic pipe runs down this pipe underneeth the level of the gravel . When you use your airpump to have a flow of air going sown this thin tube the mixture of water and air will be carried to the surface . Too mush air and you will make a mess out of it . Just enough air and you will have a nice steady flow of water . As you asked about a net over the opening of the tube , remember I told you to have a basket at the outflow to recover the smaller objects . .  Are you going to build a dredge like this ?    Cornelius

Hello Cornelius,

thank you for your explanations. I think I understand it now. I assume that the main tube is about 10 feet long and maybe 10'' in dameter.  I am just not sure how a basked should be mounted? Yes, I plan on building an airlift like this.

Best regards,

Christian

Christian your tube to the surface should also be about 10 inches  . That is why you should have a float on the surface to fasten tis hose to . The weight is somethiong you could not control otherwise .  cornelius

You could use a submersible dredge. It works about the same as a surface dredge, but the processing is done underwater closer to the dredge nozzle. The water pressure pump is at the surface and only needs one pressure hose to the submersible dredge. When done you hoist up the dredge and clean it out.

In order to work properly there should be a substancial pressure differense between intake and exhaust .   Cornelius

Hello, the diameter should be about 8 - 12''. What's importantis that your compressor has enough pressure. YOuw ill likely need about 4 - 5 bar at this depth. Regards, Christian

Wel, a 1m pipe shouzdl be sufficient. Then you need of course a hose to the surface which attaches to the pipe. The pipoe can be made of plastic (PVC) or preferable stainless steel if available. Also you need a ball valge which attached to the pipe and a hose form the valve to the surface where your compressor is.

Regards,

Christian
