Ace 250
« on: February 22, 2010, 09:43:13 am »

I am new to the hobby and I am currently using an Ace 250. I have been reading a little about building a PI detector, and I would like to give it a shot. I don't have any significant electrical experience or qualifications, but I know people who could help teach me along the way. How hard is it for a beginner to build a metal detector? And also, will I be able to build one that will perform better than the Ace 250 on saltwater beaches? If I understand correctly, the PI detectors are better in highly mineralized ground. If I can't save a little money and build something useful in as area where the Ace lacks, I guess I won't bother, I'll just save up and buy another one later, but I really like to build. Any ideas/suggestions?

Look around the forums, mate. The plans for metal detectors are all over the place. Now that you have your full membership, you can go to the downloads area and grab all the plans you like.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Welcome from New Mexico!    Great

This PI project has been documented better then most and is quite straightforward.

PCB "Printed Circuit Boards" may be available soon as the last batch has been depleted.

Here is a Jump Start for you:
