Go Up Go Down

Im building a rov for hunting lakes in Maine that I plan to use in depths of about 30 feet Im hoping to take the coil off a metal detector and mounting it to the rov and lengthing the cable so I could have the control box in the boat. The question I have is how much loss of signal will I get with that lenght of cable?

Hello Steve, 30 feet should be okay. You should use a PI Design. Regards, Christian

Steve , be sure to mount your detector at a substancial distance from your ROV otherwise the metal in the ROV ( motors  Camera ) will throw your reading off to the point where you don't know if you have detected anything . However this can be done .  You may want to put an audio amplifier in the line to the detector . Having a digital output will be the first thing to look at .   Let me know what you decide .  Cornelius

Dicko . A good ROV should be capable of going  up and down , left and right . and should have motor compartments that are water tight . You cannot use regular seals around your prop shaft because they will bind the shaft at even shallow depth .  You can use heavy duty PVC for your housing provided you glue the connections with care .   Let me know how far you are with your ROV .  Regards  Cornelius

Don't get your hopes up waiting for an answer here. There's been no activity on this thread since 2009 aside from yours. I suggest that you contact him via PM since most users get notified by e-mail when a PM comes in. Also, see if he has e-mail messages allowed.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
