Hey all,
Homemade pinpointer is working well, Maybe too well!! Am going to trim down the antenna as it picks up too much , I figure to cut the antenna to 1/4 the size and try it again. Well I 've never posted pics before, am going to give it a whirl. I am posting 2 pics one of the pointer and the other of what I found today. See if you can pick out what doesn't belong on a kids playground. I've been kinda disturbed ever since I found it.

I like the pinpointer........not bad for a homemade project. The bullet doesn't belong on the childrens
play ground.. It's good that you found it....John in Va..........

Please, can you describe its construction? What parts are needed? Thanks.

It appears to be a modified stud/nail finder to me. He most likely used the same internal circuitry and wound his own ferrite core. It was the route I was planning to go until I found that cheap detector at harbor freight.

Modify housing to hold new core in external position. IE: big long rod sticking out one end. And then simply wire it up the same way as it was before.

I kinda wish I went that route now. Since the LED's will give a reading on how close your getting. Ah well, I still have an old one laying around here somewhere. I might try it after I get done building my PI circuit.

I really need to organize the mad-lab  Amen

Hint: When performing a tear-down; a digital camera is handy. It helps to prevent rapid-unexpected-disassembly.  Idiot
