Allright Eugene52=Your'e the MAN, have talked to some headphone folk, asked this question=they don't have a clue it seems, different detectors put out different volumes/decibles/sounds, thru the headphones=OK= what i would like to know IS there a way that a device can be made to fit between the headphone jack, or at the jack, (somewhere) that can make the headphone output be adjusted like in BASS or TREBLE, like a radio, I would think this would be readily accepted as some detectors, and some headphones are, tinny-some blarey- some just plain tacky sounding, something that a user could make it more plesant to use and customize the sound to their hearing an be more tolerable- Thank You-Bugar's Inquiring mind Detecting

Bugar; This is a great Idea. Along with what you have suggested masking out certain frequencies would be handy also. I had a Garretts Scorpion Goldstinger that I changed the tone on, but had to manually adjust the circuit board to do it. It made a big difference to me on hearing signals as the tone was pleasing to me.

There are a bunch of equilizer and bass-treble circuits on the internet . Just let me know how many ohms impedance your headphones are , and we will find you a circuit to put in series with your headphone jack . The " Headphone EQ adapter" can be small with one male plug and a female input socket . Just let me now the specifications on your headphones and we will take it from there !! Also I am surprized no one has invented wireless headphones for metal detectors yet , for people like me who would love to put a shovel through the headphone wires Grin

..........We will make a patent for a "Better than Bose" wireless metal detector headphone sound system !!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello outback , You gave me an idea !! You can buy headphones that have small built in am/fm circuit . And there are plenty fm stereo transmitter kits that are dirt cheap .......................First , I will look for the bass/treble/volume circuits for Bugar . Also most headphones are 16 ohms . If your headphones are too loud and you do not have a volume control , then find a 32 ohm headphone to use , it won't be so loud . I am happy Bugar posted the first question because we will have some great answers to post now . Audio options is a very important topic !!! . When I use my Whites eagle next to a busy street I can not hear a thing ! So the new postings of circuits will help me too , we will first work on EQ circuits , Bass Treble circuits , and then some wireless circuits right here on the Great Thunting.com !!! Great

My headphones are the old style killer b's, which internally and all other than the shape are the same as newer one i believe, with a single volume control, I am told they are the same as newer models.

Hello , if you could with a decent ohmeter , please measure the resistance of your headphone plug on one speaker only . The higher the reading the better !!! I will start searching for circuits tommorrow . This posting you started will turn out pretty good..........Thanks again..............Eugene52

Just a note to the bass n treb adapters. I have build a few in the past and found that passive treble and bass circuits eat a few db of volume by nature. If you want to maintain a loud signal then an active circuit would give you better control without loss of db. The draw back with the active system is you have to use batteries and op amps and that increases the wait of the detector.
