were back......now for the fun part....modifying the L & C on the colpitts ocilator , when we rebuild the board the object is to lower the frequency down to 50 khz if possible.....we found the schematic for it in a popular electronics magazine dating back to 1967 , so the theory is that jetco ripped off this design to come up with the mustang , its rated somewhere in the 400 to 500 khz range.....now to see if you modify the capatence and resistance to lower the frequency within the original wiring that would be awsome....... Gizmo, why are you trying to modify such a low end machine? It seems like you've spent a lot of time trying to do CPR on something that is old and never worked very well.

Do you have a better machine available to you?

good afternoon golddigger......... i,m not up here to aggravate anyone , so just here me out .....all i have is the board, a multimeter schematics and a will to correct a problem to a vintage detector which i would really like to use, it may seem stubborn to not listen to the contrary ,but i like non-motion detectors of this era, so i am going to rebuild this board, and show that a model t-ford is still worth something in a space age world....we know what the problem is and are willing to put time and effort to get it done, an engineering challenge yes, but not in possible, and no i don,t own another detector @ this time......what i will say is that this type of detector is still usefull in prospecting where other detectors fail, i have looked at modern VLF detectors and have used them briefly with positive results, there are secrets to the older detectors , much like Tesla technology that is still to be uncovered, good things come to those wait & we will show that you can have a old but decent unit with some tricks up its sleeve.......a good top of the morning to you guys in Australia !!!! So it's the challenge rather than a guaranteed result. Good idea.

What about replacing the oscillator with a crystal resonator circuit or a crystal in a can? Watch crystals are very cheap and work at 32.768khz. Close enough for you?

interesting concept......we will look @ that idea too, and the frequency looks real good , the lower the better.... Teach

Try one of these. Both oscillate at 32.768khz. If you divide by 15, you can get a one second pulse. Neat, eh?
