Hi Danwebster,
The condition of this coin is amazing, how it got under the floor boards of this house no one can say even being lucky enough to catch site of it during the demolition is amazing.
Estimates around $1200.oo US are probably close I'm not sure what my neighbour is going to do with it but he said he would sell it.

I suspect that the coin was purposely hidden under the floorboards.  Hiding gold was a common practice in the old days, when banks were few, and not to be trusted.  President Roosevelt outlawed the private ownership of gold by citizens here in the U.S. in 1933, which caused many people to hide what they had.  I don't know much about Canadian history, but I'm wondering if there was a similar law passed there during that time period... Huh?

1893 gold coins like that are going for around $1,000 in MS-62 condition.

That's a truly beautiful coin.   In its present condition, it is worth a lot more to a collector than its bullion value (approximately 15.046 grams of pure gold).  US gold coins of that period run 90% pure.

Hope you have many more exciting finds.

What a real nice find, certainly a lucky chance to have found it under the floorboards like that.

Good Hunting Mike.  SmileyDetecting
