  I found the Badge in a wooded area north of Geneva, Illinois
It was only down about 1 inch under some thick old leaves.
I called the Joliet PD to see who owned it and was told that back then they turned in the badges periodicly and reissued them.  How it got in the woods is a mystery.
There were no other metal objects nearby.
