Go Up Go Down

Back in October last year I went on a weekend rally in Hertfordshire. I hadn?t found very much during the day and it was heavy going detecting through stubble and straw, my son and I got a text saying that some finds had been found in a certain area of the rally site.

Off we went to the area near a natural lake, he found a ?Roman coin? and an ?English Farthing?, but still I found nothing, I kept digging up coke (burnt coal) it gives a good signal.

I got yet another signal again I dug coke, but this time I got 2nd similar signal in my spoil heap. I opened up the clod expecting coke and to my surprise I found a beautiful Celtic Gold ? Stater over 2000 years old and looking like it had just been dropped that day. (see attachments)
It was the only gold coin found at the rally, its size is less than ? inch diameter.

I have recorded the find ?.Ref No. 16165?. on the UK Detector Finds Database?

Hi Eugene. The coin doesn't have a great monetry value. one similar to it sold on e-bay recently for ?285.00, I don't know what that is in dollars. I did have several offers from dealers, But its a once in a lifetime find, because its so small and I wouldn't part with it.

Best regards Mike

Hello Mike,

this is an excellent find and thought after by any European detectorist. They can also be found in Germany but are very rare as most Celtic relics are. Congratulations. It is a find of a lifetime for sure!

Regards,

Christian
