Seems to be a lot of differences between states there.

Yes, but not as much as there use to be.
It used to be on most subjects, if you didn't like the law in the city or the state you lived in and you couldn't convince enough people to change the law, you could move to another city or state that did things more to your liking.   Unfortunately, my lifetime has seen a major move towards all legislation, no matter how trivial, being driven by the power mongers in Washington who are sheltered from the ramifications of their actions rather than the people in the cities and towns that are directly effected by the laws implemented.   Personally, I can't help but feel that we have lost far more than we have gained.

Yep I agree with you.

We often talk about and wonder what our past generation fought for because it sure as hell was not freedom. Every day more and more things we took as a given when we were kids gets taken away. More rules and more laws equals less right and less freedom.  I was given a pocket knife when I was 7 and still have it to this day, yet now its not legal for anyone under 18 to have one.

I think TV and the media also has a lot to do with it.

It gets worse every day and with this we are breeding a socially of wooses because no one was allowed to teach them respect and proper use of these things, firearms being another classic example.
