Here is a point my daughter and I found on one of her hunts with me. Its unique because There isnt many points like this found in Missouri. It looks Fluted it just has good basal thinning but the base is convex and it looks like heat treated flint not sure about any basal grinding. Burlington is a hard material for me to photo but heres a try.
Oh its a little less than 3 inches and pretty thin.

I don't know what to think of it. Idea

I have down loaded a pic of it and am presenting
it to someone who has a lot more knowlege of this subject.
I may be wrong but it looks to be a transition Paleo!
Could be new point type!
I will get back on this one for sure!

Out4gold, I have posted it on a few other forums even asking if it was like an early triangular from Texas and was told no early triangulars have a unique feature this one doesnt posess. Yes the thinning looks alot like paleo but I even doubt it was used by a later culture (found by a native after being made before) but there is somone else from my area who found one very similar yet his isnt heat treated like my point is so he thinks his is much older than my point so cant get anywhere with him understanding his point and my point may be the same. He said I can use his pic, maybe I will post his later.

It could be anything from mid archaic to late woodland in my opinion. Its possible its a rare type, maybe even some of the last Bison Hunting Culture points. Funny

OK Heres the other one an acquaintence found. He said I can use his photo. Both of our points may have been longer before.

Oh your'e right it dies look quite simular.
I'm still waiting on some of my contacts. They are very up on types here in Tex and otherwise.
I'll keep bringing this one up so it will stay on top.

Well Vision, I did get the reply I was looking for and it was not what I thought.
All of the replys hit on pre-form. The unusual base flute is nothing more than just thinning.
It appears that your assumption was on the money and as far as a rare type, questionable.
Woodland, archaic perhaps, not paleo.
I still like it even if it is just a preform. The color is one of the things that attracts me.
It seems that you have a really good area to frequent. Keep it up and your collection will continue will grow.
I haven't seen any of ypur posts on "digging". Do you ever sink any holes to see what pops out? Or do you just surface?

I just surface Hunt never really dug looking for artifacts. I wouldnt say if I did though Funny

because I am pretty sure digging in Missouri while looking for Artifacts isnt Legal unless of course its an "Official" dig set up by The State or something. Lots of people in Missouri do dig and finds lots of stuff.

Texas its OK to dig on private property though in Missouri I guess one could just be digging for worms or rocks Wink

and who knows what might turn up? Rider

Nice find. Speaking of digging, the state archies are digging in an area next to our Kansas corn field. We gave them surface only hunting permission in the field - good thing as, on the gov land, they have used back hoes and must be digging back to the beginning of time as deep & much as they've excavated Shocked
