Hi all Smiley
New to the forums AND detecting.
I'm Erik, 34 and from the Netherlands.
My detecting interests are mostly WW2 related.
Haven't found much of interest yet but should have a nice story soon Wink

Thx Bitburg Smiley
I'm from the east of Holland, near the german border.
This is also the region i hunt in.

@homefire:
Detecting laws?
Well, as long as you have permission of the owner of the land you search on, it's ok.
No searching in the forests though, especially the known battlefields (like Arnhem for instance) but we all search in the forests anyway.
On a sidenote, i'm going to a forest with the parkranger (not sure if that's the correct word) soon.
He's also interested in this and has documentation and locations of where the german troops were in that area.
Best of all, it's legal since he's coming along Wink

Looking forward to seeing some of your finds.  I spent a lot of weekends in your part of the country when I lived in Bitburg in the early 70's.    (and hunting is always better when you have the law's representative with you  Wink )

Well, current finds are not so special.
Found a few empty rounds, biggest being a .50 (SL 4), probably from a Browning (near a railroad that was under fire regularly).
Near that same place, i found a coin from 1825 as well.
I also found an old well, threw the magnet in and it caught something but i couldn't get it out of there because of all the junk on it.
Later, the farmer told that hand grenades were dumped in that well.
So that's probably what the magnet caught.
Going back to that spot for sure.

Lol, thanks Smiley
The friend is the reckless one Wink
Strange thing is, if it was only a nade that got caught, it would have surfaced through the junk in the well but this thing was bigger.
The magnet holds 120kg/265 pounds so that's enough.
Could have been the box or maybe a gun, who knows?

Lots of weapons have been buried/disposed of in that area after the germans found the hideout of the resistance and blew the place up.
The farmer told us that his grandfather had buried weapons and explosives after the massacre occurred.
Many has been disposed of by army experts in the 70's/80's leaving a hole 45 cubic metres/1 589.16 cubic feet deep.
According to the farmer, they might have missed a spot but that's part of a bigger story Wink
