Hi everyone,a newbie to metal detecting too.We live not far from the beach which I love to walk on & saw this guy with a metal detector a couple of months ago, stopped to talk & to cut a long story short my husband bought me this Minelab Sovereign GT ( to shut me up I think  Wink.I've been 'playing' ever since,but I must admit I don't really know what I'm doing so thought I would pick up some info & it sure looks like I have come to the right place.Thank you for letting me join up,wish I found you sooner,next week am off to the UK for 6 weeks, so won't be able to practice my new found  skills. jetrow

I agree with Paul A.

I'd be packing that metal detector if I was you. There are many clubs where you can arrange an outing for day just to say you have detected thee at least.

And beside you never know you might make the discovery of a life time.

Hey Jetrow.....welcome to THunting.com.    Hardluck and Paul A have experience in that area.  As for how to travel with your detector, we've had a few discussions about that.   (you can use the search function at the top of the page to search the entire forum, if you're interested in the previous discussions).

There are plenty of placed to detect in the UK.

Thanks for the welcome folks.
You have sown the seed Hardluck! Going to search for some info re taking the detector.My UK rellies will be amazed.Being in my late 60's they all think I should be knitting & watching TV  Cheesy like they do.!
I'm on the Central Coast, about 2 hrs from Sydney GD.Thanks again for the welcome.I must say this forum is a great motivator, the md has been in the cupboard not used much as a little bit overawed with it to tell you the truth so this weekend off to the beach to have a go. jetrow

Hello jetrow

You are in a wonderful part of the world up there on the Central coast. Plenty of quiet beaches to swing the detector. Even it you do not find anything, the Fresh air and an early morning walk along the beach is nothing better watching the sun come up other the ocean.

And besides don't let anyone stereo type you, you can what ever you want. So please do not feel intimidated. when we are over 50 years old, we start to be come slowing invisible to the general public anyway.  Grin

So have fun you have earned it. And your sit at home relatives will some thing to be envious about.  Wink

Enjoy your holiday.
