Welcome from New Mexico.

I was stationed at Patrick AFB and know the area quite well.

The day Challenger Did it's thing was my last day on base before heading to Greece.  NOT COOL!  Jan 28th 86.

I worked Communications Support for the missions.

Never going to forget that one! Shocked

Have you hit the Wreck sites around there?

Every storm, I was out there.

Before Internet, I found the Green Wreck and others.  Took three people out there with me.

They found 11 Reales and Me Nothing!  Just Not right.  LOL   Do you think they would give me one for showing them the spot?   Yea Right!

Homefire, sounds like you have been all over the world. Did you carry your detector with you? How is the weather in NM. Has the heat let up yet. We got a break last week for about 5 days.

Interesting, Homefire. I read some time ago that Turkey is very sensitive about metal detecting and treasure hunting in general. Apparently during the time of Alexander the Great there was a road from Persia to the Black Sea that passed through Turkey. It was traveled by all the conquering armies and since they were paid in loot, they stopped before each battle to hide their loot. Some never came back to recover it and the ground in that area has yielded up awesome treasure. When the Ottoman Turks ruled the area they would hang people they found digging for treasure. I don't think they hang people anymore but I understand they will lock you up in a heartbeat.

Is that why your detector was hidden?

Remember Sasha? He lives near the border of Turkey and Armenia. I'm not sure where the "golden road" is but I think part of it passed through S.W. Armenia.  Smiley
