Go Up Go Down

Hi all,
We often loose arrows on the archery field and so as far as treasure hunting.I'm mostly interested in finding them.
I have done a fair amount of electronics so a DIY project is what Im after.

Traditional archery is generally wooden arrows with either a steel or brass tip. Generally a decent lump of metal:) The arrows will bury themselves a few inches under thick grass or bush.
and can be pinpointed (or remembered where it landed) to within a 20sq meter area.

Its amazing how these things get so easily lost.

I suspect a VLF design is best? But have two distinct areas of operation.

1)Grass. As mentioned above, on a grass field where they have burrowed themselves in.

Often we shoot arrows on old or active  gun shooting ranges so possibility of discriminating arrow heads from gun shot would be nice but not paramount.

2)Bush settings. Sometimes the arrow is not under grass at all but simply in amongst fallen twigs and undergrowth. This maybe a different problem entirely. The bush can be quite thick walk in. The arrow is not covered by debris just obscured by it.

thanks for any thoughts

Hello Vector!

Welcome to our website. Hope you will enjoy it.

Well, if your gorunds are basically free of trash, you can stick with a PI design - which has no discrimination capabilities. It is the easiest to build and offers generally speaking better depth than a VLF design.

However if there is any sort of trash (mainly iron such as nails) you better go with a VLF design.

Regards,

Christian

Thanks Christian,
Generally the field is pretty clean, so your correct discrimination is not a vital requirement.
I will look at some PI to see how they differ.
thanks

Hi Vector,
Welcome to our forum, I'm looking forward to Your posts and finds. I hope You find
your arrow heads. ( Just a tip no pun intended! I used to put a drop or two of locktight on my arrowhead threads before screwing them into the shaft. Best Wishes,,,,Rob

I dont loose too many myself, maybe one every couple of trips, I tend to break a few tho Smiley

But with kids and others with lesser luck there is a good chance after a club meeting, that a good 30 mins is spent recovering half a dozen arrows.

some of these arrows are works of art and hard to walk away from Smiley
