Andries before you buy a new one try looking for a 2nd hand one thats no longer being used it will save you money in the long run.
Bear in mind one thing this is an investment your going to make because if you choose wisely the machine will pay for itself from what you recover. theres no such thing as luck in my book the harder you work at it the luckier you will become and anyone on here will confirm that I have never intentionally led anyone up the garden path.
Everything I did I wrote about in the fullest detail because I wanted others to go out there and be successful you can too all it takes is your desire and determination.

Hello Andries,

welcome to our site! I am also with Alan that the Fisher CZ-20 / CZ-21 is an excellent machine for hunting beaches and in the surf. A preowened one should be available for about USD 400.00. The Garrett Ace 250 is also a good beginner machine. I just don't know how well it will perform on beaches as those have a high ground mineralisation.

Best wishes,

Christian

 Hello Andries,

I would recommend you a Pulse Induction (PI) detector. It possibly turns out great for gold nuggets, gold coins, gold jewellery at short and medium distances from 6 cm to 3 ft.

Hello Andries...From one new member to another, welcome. You should have no problem finding a used detector as there are quite a few guys doing this in your area. Capetown is a fantastic city and nothing like the view from Table Mtn....Good luck, Jim in Brooklyn NY
PS: Detected in Harrismith a few years back and it was a real blast. I would say the SA fellows we were with are as crazy as some here in the states. I'll be back in 2011 for sure.
