Just my own curiosity, GD. Vintage for me because of budget. I am always lurking for a bargain, and I believe in serendipitous providence. I also have a soft spot in my head for the old Garretts.

I see. Well, the old Garrett machines do well against the modern machines. My Groundhog is still my favorite overall machine except that it's really heavy. Can't use it for long any more or I'd have arms like Popeye.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I too like to old Garretts.

I have a ADS and a S3 that Run at 15Khz that will do the deed.

The little S3 Is wimppy for depth but it sure will find it.

If we're talking GOLD machines, Tesoro Lobos should be included in the list.   You can usually pick one up for relatively low cost.  The control unit is detachable, so you can wear it on your belt (which means you can swing the coil all day), and I guarantee it does as good a job as just about any other VLF out there for picking up small targets.   AND they're also pretty good relic and coin hunters (although) some folks complain they don't have the depth in certain soils that some other machines have.
