Hi to everyone, I've been trying my hand with let's say a cheap piece of equipment, andhaving minimal success. Will someone please guide me in the right direction on what would be a good reliable metal detector. I hunt in East Tennessee, the land has quit a bit of hills and streams, rivers and lakes. Mainly looking for lost relics, coins, bullets, anything basically. I wood like to get one that will give an indication of what the item is before I dig for four hours and find a nail. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks, Tommy.

Your question is far too nebulous for a specific answer. I suggest that you do a search on the forums for information that has been presented here in thousands of posts. Yes, everyone and their uncle come here asking the exact same question. There are literally thousands of suggestions on which brand and model of detector is suited to a specific use. Use terms liek "beginner" "detector" or "relic" in your search and have fun reading. There is so much information here that you won't be finished going over it for months.

Welcome aboard. Have fun!

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Do your research and read lots of field tests ,not from the manufacture but from independent people and you can get a pretty good idea of what works best for you and at the price range your willing to pay  makes a Little difference also. Wink

Welcome from Kansas. Just on a personal note, GARAGE SALES. I would not be here if I had not run across a 30 year old Garrett with 2 coils, phones and instruction tape for under $20. Garrett, Whites, fisher, bounty hunter have been around a while. good luck and happy hunting.... Pawn shops will come off their sticker price if you are persistent.
