Go Up Go Down

Hello everybody,

my Name is Joe, I am 45 years old, an electronic engineer and I live in Europe (first in Germany where I was born, then in Slovenia (next to Austria/Italy/Hungary) and now since seven years in Poland.

A friend of mine told me some weeks ago that he knows places where probably people running away from the German Nazis buried their treasures to hide them (e.g. in general Gold and Silver Coins).

Unfortunately, some of this people didnīt return back home ...

So the treasures are still there, he thinks. He asked me if I would like to help him to find some of them. The terrain/location is mostly woods next to small and little villages in Poland.

Therefore I started collecting knowledge about Metal Detectors. Soon I recognised, that the "usual" ones (like Garrett, Tesoro, Teknetics, Fisher, ...) which as I think work with VLF probably are not very useful for this purpose because they donīt go much deeper as about 30cm (12 feet?).

I am sure, if somebody buried his treasures in a depth of letīs say 20cm or 30cm (maybe he didnīt have enough time to dig much deeper ...) about 60 years ago (or longer), this goods probably did sink in this long time period some deeper.

Therefore Metal Detectors which go maximum 50cm AMHO will not be the right tool kit to find such treasures.

I also found the Information, that PI Detectors will go much deeper, but it seems that only at big objects they do so (like a soda can or even bigger).

But, if e.g. I would like to find letīs say a handfull (maybe five Twenty-Dollar-Gold-Coins) Coins, also the PI Detectors are not the right tool, are they? I am not very sure about that. Maybe the more expensive ones like the Lorenz Deepmax X5, the Pulse Star 2 Pro, the Minelab GPX 5000 (maybe even Jeohunter and/or Jeoscan, OKM Evolution ...) or similar ones would do what I expect? Does anybody know?

Another solution I found are the 2-Box Metal Detectors. It seems they have the same problem like the PI Detectors, that they only will detect larger objects in "deep" hiding places.

I really donīt know what to choose ...

Or would it be maybe a good idea to make a detector by my own (DIY) with some help of experienced "freaks" of Deep Metal Detecting?

I donīt want to buy such an expensive tool and after short time find out that this is not suitable for my needs and expectations ... Although I am prepared to spend a nice bunch of money for the detector, I donīt want to buy something "useless" for my purpose ...

Can anybody help, please?

Can anybody give me some hints, please?

I am even prepared to participate one with the found treasures for a good hint and help ... Smiley

Thank you very much in advance for your kind answers.

Very truly yours,

Joe

Hello Joe, and Welcome from Utah! What a great topic too! Yes, as homefire stated, the new users thread is just us saying 'Hi'. Do you have a regular detector now? Be sure to post your findings in the 'today's Finds' thread in this forum, and also if you have pictures we'd love to see them too. Feel free to go into the user profile section and download some sort of avatar picture - and update the 'where you're from part too' so that way a little Poland flag shows up just below your picture icon and everyone can see it. As you see in the threads/replies - the avatar/portrait picture doesn't have to be a picture of yourself.

Hello all together and thank you very much for your warm welcome messages.

No, until now I donīt have any Metal Detector yet, and as a result of that also no found material til now.

I just donīt want to "waste" money by buying something which does not fit my needs ...  Smiley

Therefore, before buying, I wanted to get some real information. The salespeople of the Metal Detectors I asked until now told me a lot of silly stuff, just to sell their equipment.

But I want to get honest Information, thatīs the reason why I wanted to ask the community here in this great Forum.

Very truly yours,

Joe

P.S.: I am just going to try to update my user profile

Hello hardluck,

thank you for asking.

Until now, reading and reading and reading I have a very "large" head ... As I am doing it almost every day, several hours a day, I gained a lot of knowledge.

As by now, I still didnīt buy any machine.

I am now ready to buy one Proton-Precession-Magnetometer and at least one VLF Metal Detector like the Minelab Explorer SE or the Whiteīs DFX 300. Also I am considering to buy a Whiteīs TM808.

I think with this equipment I can do the following:

1. With the Explorer SE or the DFX 300 I can find Gold and Silver Coins which maybe are hidden inside the walls (and maybe grounds) of old houses. Also, I can find not so deep buried Coins hidden in woods and fields, which probably I can not find with the PPM and the TM808

2. With the PPM I hope to find Gold and Silver Coins buried in deep locations which can not be found by the Explorer SE / DFX 300, but are hopefully buried inside of a metal can, jar with metal lid or other metal containers

3. With the TM808 I hope to find Gold and Silver Coins which can not be found with the Explorer SE / DFX 300 because they are buried too deep, and which also can not be found with the PPM because they are buried inside of a bag or similar (non metal "container") and therefore can not be "seen" with a PPM as they do not have any magnetic field

Further, I am looking to find a way to buy the stuff without the VAT, because in this price range I am going to spend my money the VAT will be a pretty nice bunch of money ...  Wink

Additional, I am not sure where to buy the PPM. I have seen the PPM from Willy Bayot (

).

Willy, I think, has a lot of experience and several important people helping him (one of this is a Doctor of Physics). But for me as I am not experienced it is very, very hard to understand everything about the MarkIVb, its function and working and so on. So there is a lot of reading, but also a lot of technical verbs I do not quite know what they mean and I am tired of searching for the mean on the Web.

On the other hand, I know from experience, that people from Russia often are very, very intelligent and smart. Looking at the PPM of Oleg
Shashin I see that the marketing he (or his salesperson) does is really better IMHO than Willyīs. Also it seems that the price of Olegīs machine is some more inexpensive than Willyīs MarkIVb (Willy sells the MarkIII for half the price, but I still do not understand the difference between this two machines ...). On the Website of Oleg there is structural information which is easy to understand for a non-expert.

So for me it is hard to decide what to do regarding the PPM. I really donīt know how to decide. Maybe it would be a good Idea to buy both, Willyīs and Olegīs machine. But this will be twice the price for a machine I really need only once ...

Thank you for asking again!

Very truly yours,

Joe

Hello Oxyygon

I think in the end you will make the best decision based on your careful research on products. However having the best equipment is only part of equation. Having good reliable reseach goes a long way as well as a little bit of luck.

All the best with your search.

Hardluck
