Hi there, treasure hunters!
Let me introduce myself. I am an old geezer who has led an interesting life. I'm currently writing an adventure novel centering on treasure hunting on Cocos Island. No, they don't find the loot of Lima. Not Thompson's loot of Lima. Not Benito Bonito’s loot of Lima.
However, which might be of some interest, I happened to have visited Cocos Island twice. In 1955 I happened on a windfall and graduated from a simple choker setter and log truck driver into a yacht owner-for about a year-after which the money ran out and I've spent the rest of my life working hard.
The boat I bought was an old Alden ketch, Noname. Together with two friends I sailed her from Seattle Washington to New York City through the Panama Canal. On the way to Panama we stopped at Cocos Island and anchored there for about a week. We loaded up with fresh water and munched on a delicious young deer. We then proceeded to Balboa in the Canal zone. We were already short of money, so that when a party of three Brits wanted to charter us to go to Cocos Island we took their money and took them to Cocos Island.
We stayed on the island about six weeks, hacked a lot of brush, caught a lot of fish, ate several pigs and dug a great many fruitless holes. There was a lot of comedy involved and some rather frayed personal relationships, but no life-size solid gold statue of the Virgin Mary with emerald eyes or anything else of any particular value.
