Most of the hunting I do is I will research a town and look for the oldest part and start door knocking.. In smaller towns homeowners are more likely to say yes.. I usually intro by saying "I just wanted to see if you wouldn't mind if I detect between the sidewalk and the road, which belongs to the city" they are fine with that, Then I ask "if I do find some older finds would you mind if I detect your yard?" most are fine with it.. I have about a 90% yes to no percentage on that.
Civil War sites are not that common. Most of our sites are preCivil War and usually date back to the Indian protection Forts built in the 1820s-1850's. I have made a few finds, like buttons, bullets, and other relics. There are some older sites that date back to Spanish and French occupation but are really scarce... and btw thanks for the welcome guys..
