  I am new to metal detecting, but live in Colombia S.A. where I am told there is much to be found. I will keep you posted as to my progress. I am starting with an old Whites Goldmaster, but have a gold bug 2 coming. The area in which I live is in the mountains east of Medellin, recently there was a major gold strike 21 km from where I live, and my area shows much of the same type of terrian as the area where much gold has been found. I am hoping that one of the many small streams and rivers in my area has some gold, as with today's prices it doesn't take much to make prospecting profitable.

 You have to get permission to access private land and of course the owners want a piece of what you find. I am also shooting for coins, which is unheard of down here. The area where I live is 468 yrs old, settled before Medellin, with many old parks and roadways that have been in use for over 400 yrs., and never had a detector on them. The new coins are not worth a lot, a 500 peso coin is worth about .25 cents U.S. Some older Colombian coins are quite valuable, also there are Spanish coins too.

Several million oz claims have been found. Also rubies, emeralds, saphires, platinum, diamonds. Remember the Spanish shipped boatloads back to Spain from here.
