Go Up Go Down

Hi y'all. This is my first post, so please excuse any faux pas. While visiting near the Blue Ridge Mts this weekend I stumbled upon an Indian arrow head. (I was on 100 acres of private property visiting friends and had permission) Smiley
Anyway, after finding the arrow head I started looking around more and found several other interesting things. The nail is wrought iron and about 12 1/2" long, the hook shaped object is also wrought iron and appears broken. I think, but I'm not sure, that it looks like a wrought iron fastener of some kind. The 2 objects that have me perplexed are the round stone and the little pointy tooth looking thing. I know the area is known for its Cherokee history. Wondering if the little round stone could be some sort of wager stone used in Cherokee games such as their game of straw...? The little pointy thing, when looked at closely, has striations and grooves similar to those found in fossilized shark teeth....but I'm clueless on this one.
Well that's it. My first find and first post....Thanks so much for any ideas you might have.

Oops Idiot...duh. I suppose this would get a little more feedback in finds. Faux pas #1...haha. So as an introduction, I have never used a metal detector, but really want to get one. I collect and appreciate anything old...toys, bottle caps, shark teeth, my husband  Wink
Kids are getting older, one at Baylor University, so would love to find a cache of gold to pay for it! Until then, I think I'll just continue exploring and enjoying the great outdoors.

Well, as the designated moderator for the New Users Introduction board, I would have let your original post stand even without the added post since you did tell us a bit about yourself (i.e. your first post and you are responsible enough to know you need to get permission to hunt a site  Smiley )  but I do appreciate the added information.   I'll probably forgive the fact you have a kid at Baylor since I'm pretty much over that whole not so Big 12 outfit, but it might be a little tough.

I'm not the fossil expert, but I agree with you that the little pointy thing probably is a shark's tooth.  As for getting a metal detector---as you already know, it is NOT a requirement either to be a Treasure Hunter or to be a member of this site.   (Besides, you find the right bottle, token, or other relic and you can buy a nice detector with the proceeds from selling it).

Welcome from  a Texan living in Arizona

No worries!
Welcome from Kansas! Congrats on the Kiddo! I think you are spot on with your observations. the nail is possibly a lynch pin for an old wagon and the hook is probably an axle clip, same wagon. We have seen them before in the "what is it" section. Don't wait for a pot of gold for your detector. Really good used ones can be had for a bargain.

Hahaha!! Thanks y'all.

I understand the visceral feelings between Aggies and Bears, so I know that's tough!
I'll fight that urge to say Sic em Bears! Wink

Poptop, thanks. I appreciate it. The gold isn't to pay for the detector, it's to pay for Baylor. Grin
