Go Up Go Down

I just found your site.  It really looks interesting.
I live in Chesapeake VA and have been detecting for just a few years.  I enjoy finding "stuff" but I really want to start finding "really neat stuff".  I recently bought a waterproof detector so I can get off the beach and into the water.  Most of my hunting has been limited to beaches, school yards, old homes, parking lots and playgrounds.  Anyone with tips about hunting in the surf, give me a shout.
I saw a howdy from the N.U.T.S. in Salt Lake City to one of the new members.  I will be in Salt Lake the first week of August.  Maybe I should take my detector.
That is about it for now.

Howdy, OBX Bum.......welcome to THunting.com.   Traveling with a detector (at least domestically) isn't a problem....so unless you're sure you won't use it.......(just check the Salt Lake City ordinances before you go to see if you can hunt the parks--unless you hook up with a local before you go)

Hi OBX and welcome! Understand wanting to go from stuff to really neat stuff  - your new detector should take you down some new paths. Good luck! Sue

Go Up Go Down

I will be flying to Salt Lake then driving to Provo next week.  I am going to take my MD as a carry on.  I hope to hunt a ghost town or two while I am in Provo.  Do you know anyone out there that might be able to point me in the right direction?  I have never hunted an honest to goodness western ghost town.
Here is a little tale about a most interesting find.  I was going hunting the beach at OBX and parked in my favorite (free) parking spot at the fishing pier.  I like to hunt coins and jewelry on the beach and in the shallow surf.  I got out of my truck and got my gear on and as usual immediately turned on my detector.  No sense wasting the sand between the truck and the beach.  I was walking toward the beach and crossed under the pier when I got a really strong signal.  I shoved my long handled scoop in the sand and when I pulled back on the handle, a big square of sand raised up.  I thought it must be a board with nails in it.  We get some strong storms around here and occasionally lose a house or two.  I knelt down to dust off my "board" and it was blue and said Bud Light on it.  I was beginning to get steamed.  Instead of walking ten feet to a trash can some  #@$%#$ had stuffed his empties back in the case and buried them on the beach.  I dug it so I will take it to the trash.  When I got it pulled out of the sand, to my surprise, it was an unopened case of beer.  I did my duty and took that "trash" off the beach (and put it in my truck).  That was by far the most unusual find of the day.

OBX Bum
I am flying in to Salt Lake and then driving down to Provo.  Do you know any locals in the vicinity who might point me in a good direction for some ghost town hunting?

Chesapeake, VA has lots of good stuff. Civil war and Revolutionary war. Also, just go to the beach and detect "all" of it. Change us usually found in the drier sand where people stay, and more often jewelry is down in the "wet" sand. Also, check out wherever someone has dug a hole with their hands. Their rings come off and they don't even know it.
