I want to find users of 2 different magnetometers and see how they liked them. First is the "Discovery Digital Boat Towed Magnetometer" and the "JW Fisher Proton 4". I love the looks of the software with the Proton 4 but its double the price.

Hi Smilies, Thought I'd say welcome. Haven't used a magnetometer so I can't help you, but I'm sure others can. You must be searching for something big. Sue

Hello Smiles. I have the Proton 3 mag. It is extremely sensitive. Can you provide a link to the "Discovery" mag?

I called Discovery today and after talking to the owner, I switching gears to a side scan sonar. He even told me about the sport scan

and recommended it as one to buy so I'm switching gears to that.

The Proton as any JW Fishers gear is overpriced. I would recommend buying a Mark II Magnetometer Kit from Willy (you can find him here on our forum). It outperforms both of the devices you've mentioned at a fraction of teh cost.

Regards,

Christian
