[hello]My name is Jim, from Glendale (right next to Phoenix), and I just picked up a Titan 2000xd. Not exactly new to the business, just had a rather rude introduction to it, had my rig confiscated by the constabulary in Prescott AZ a few years back. After familiarizing myself with the laws (AZ is REALLY draconian compared to other states), took up gold prospecting as a pastime. Then came along Discovery's "Meteor Men" and rekindled my interest and wish to diversify! Would love to build a towable acquisition rig like the show (have a 4WD) and start out right (no BLM, state trust lands or reservations!). Been an electronics tech for the last 20 years, so I hope to be able to help out someone and contribute to this forum. Really glad I found this community!

Welcome from Wickenburg.  Do you mind if I ask what happened in Prescott, I'm rather new at this hobby and would like to keep out of too much trouble.

Jim- Welcome.  "Meteor Men" has inspired me all well.  Not sure how likely it is that I'll be able to find a meteorite in Indiana, but I have added one to my finds "wish list"!

Hey azjake, found myself digging up some AZ trust land, a big time NO NO!(as the sheriff was nice enough to inform me). ASLD (AZ Land Dept.) manages 9 million acres, and there's quite a few parcels around Prescott. Inform yourself before ya go hunting, because just walking onto STL with a MD will get you fined and your gear confiscated! They are illegal, even with a recreation or mining permit (by letter of the law, walking around with a soil sample warrents a fine!). Here's a great map,

http://sco.az.gov/website/parcels/viewer.htm,
shows everything (STL, BLM, mineral leases etc.). My first stop is gonna be Gold Basin, just S. of Lake Meade, very popular with the gold shooters and no worries about stepping on the wrong parcel of dirt. Good luck!  Cheesy
