Hidden treasures in Massachusetts do exist. The State is rich in pirate lore. However, many other treasure tales exist that pertain to family treasures, Revolutionary War caches and robberies.
Now, to get you started on your search for lost treasures in Massachusetts, here are seven areas that are worth searching.
Martha's Vineyard Island is located off Cape Cod. This island was settled in the mid 1600's. By the nineteenth century it became an important whaling island. Hundreds of ships wrecked and were tossed onto it's beaches. Artifacts and silver coins
have been found on the beaches.
Nantucket Island is east of Martha's Vineyard. This island was the home to hundreds of whaling ships during the 1700's. Many wrecks can be seen on the beaches. Many English silver coins have been found on the beaches.
H.M.S. Hazard was a British warship that wrecked during a hurricane in 1712. The ship went down off the beach of Green Harbor, located approximately 5 miles north of Gurnet Point, in Plymouth Bay. The Hazard was carrying thousands of dollars in gold coins.
Stockbridge is located on County 102. During the French and Indian War, this town was destroyed. Before the attack, the villagers, whom were all eventually massacred,
hid their possessions.
The Sparrow Hawk was a ship that wrecked in 1624. It went down off the beach of Cape Cod, near Orleans. British brass coins have been found along the beaches east of Orleans. They are believed to be from the Sparrow Hawk wreck.
Lynn Beach is located approximately 12 miles northeast of Boston. Old coins have been seen along it's beaches.
The Old Fort Treasure is located somewhere in the vicinity of Shirley, on County route 111. Somewhere in the vicinity is believed to be approximately $400,000 in buried gold and silver coins.
