Hello. I'm a new member here. I don't have a detector, but am just learning about hunting. I live in Oregon, and think I know where there is some gold stashed, though I cannot get to it. Yet. Before I try, I want to learn about detectors, which is one reason I'm here.

Thanks, all.

NorthWind

Hi Northwind, good luck, once you get the detector, you'll be on a great finding adventure. Sue

Thanks all for the warm welcome. Now, where can I go here to learn about a detector that might detect a large cache of gold some 5 or ten feet deep?

I'm sure someone will come back with an answer to that question, but I've got a question of my own----"why do people always think large caches are buried 5 or 10 feet deep?".    Most caches, including large ones aren't likely to be that deep unless the person who hid the cache stumbled on a pre-dug hold.   Most people who are caching things try to avoid attention.  Digging a big hole take a long time (which is often at a premium when you're "on the run") and the more time you spend digging, the more  likely you are to call attention to yourself and to the fact you're trying to hide something.

Greetings from Australia and good luck finding your cache. Like BA says, it's not likely that your cache is that deep. The depth of a cache will almost always be less than 24" unless there's been a rock slide or some other disaster.
