Just logging in for first time. Don't have a detector yet or a GPS but looking to start combing the beaches...which I'm sure many already have done down here.

Well, there's always research (which will come in handy in the future). But on a more practical note, Warren Merkitch wrote a book called the Beachcombers Handbook. It's usually listed on eBay as being by Karl Von Mueller, but he only wrote the introduction. Besides being an excellent guide to how to hunt beaches, Merkitch has detailed plans that you can use to build both dry and wet sifters. Pretty interesting devices.....
