Hello, BridgeHunter. Welcome to THunting.com.
I suggest you use the "Advanced Search" box at the top of the page. Enter either "best detector" or "best detector for beginner" and select "entire forum". There has been a whole lot written lately on the subject. One thing you're definitely going to have to do is decide what your budget is. It will also help if you know whether you'll mainly be looking for coins, relics, gold, or a combination and whether you mainly plan to search on dry land, at the beach, or in the water.
All of this has been discussed in some detail and links have been posted to review sites. As a general rule, Garrett's, White's, Tesoros, Fishers, and Minelabs all get high marks from most of the forum members. Consider buying used, especially if you can try before you buy....it will give you more bang for your buck.

BA is right we have had a lot of good decisions on MD for the newbie lately but it still all comes down to budget get the best you can afford That way it will be awhile before you will want to up grade plus the resale value will be better. I have not bought a new MD in 5 years have been lucky to get several like new ones cheap on ebay etc but am buying a new water detector soon and after a little more research will call Ms B and see if I can get an under the table deal. Just kidding Ms B I am not like that and am sure you are not ether.
