Hello, I'm new to this forum as well as metal detecting. I just got the 9 function metal detector from harbor freight for 40.00 because I think it would be fun searching for "lost" items and old relics. It's amazing how many cool and old things you all have found here! I look forward to uploading some of my finds once I learn how to use this thing the right way!

Howdy Crystal,  If you can find a metal detecting club in your area they can give you some pointers on how to use your new detector.  If you get tired of swinging that thing around, there is always garage sales.  I once heard of man buying a picture frame and when he got home he opened the back up to discard the old picture that was in it and discovered it was a post card from long ago with a stamp on it.  The stamp turned out to be worth a lot of money.  So treasure is where you find it.  It can be hidden and some are even in plain sight.

Hello, Crystal!  I'm new, too.  My detector is borrowed.  My son bought it at Tuesday Morning. On sale, I think.  I found some old toys Very Shallow in my yard - left by the little boy who lived here before.  There's a park close by.  I hope to find something more interesting soon.  Are there any laws about public metal detecting?  I wonder if people will be coureous.  I'm not exactly confident enough to be performing for onlookers.  Good success to you!
