Greetings to all! I have always been fascinated by lost treasure of all kinds and the history that goes along with it. Life gets busy and it has been years since I have had the chance to get out and do any searching. I look forward to getting back out there. I did some dowsing with my grandfather when I was younger and wasn?t too bad it. I am also interested in getting into metal detecting but don?t know where to start, what kind is good for the beginner and so on. This site will help a great deal for that I am sure.

Hi Mordecai, welcome! Enjoyed reading your post and think you'll find detecting enjoyable. Research and history is important and then trying to ID what you do find. Lots of fun! Decide your price range and choose the detector that meets your requirements (what/where you want to hunt). Good luck! Sue

Hi  Mordecai, and Welcome from Utah! However you obtain your new metal detector (Craig's list, ebay, internet shopping, or local store) whatever, do some reading here in the forums and look at the reviews by others that have posted BEFORE running out and buying one. You probably might want to start with an entry-level m/d for starters, then after several months of m/d then think about possibly upgrading if you should choose to do that. I personally have an old Whites, and have heard good things about the Garrett models too, there are others out there (Bounty Hunter, and more).. so just do a little reading up and then get started! Digging tools are a must too! I've got a pretty cool 'sifter' that has the holes in it that perfectly sifts out all the dirt/sand and leaves only the coins if that's what I get a hit on. Plan to get lots of junk when you start (pull tabs, wires, nails, etc)... that's how it goes and don't lose patience. Hope that helps  Grin
