Hello my name is Steve im 29 and thanks to the show gold rush ive become bit of a rock hounder and precious metal hunter. Im bit of an amature but had some small success. Id like to step it up im planning a gold hunting trip to bancroft ont. I will go whare the gold is if anybody has any recomendations to places or sites with tailings or even gems?? Ill also be looking into buying my first metal detector what do i look for in a metal detector?

Welcome from New Mexico Steve.

Research is your key to finding gold locations.

No one is going to put you on a productive open location.

Where sorta stingy on stuff like that.

Have a look around in our Prospectors Talk section.

We have a pile of good info in there.


As for the detector, I assume your talking about a Gold Machine here?

That too requires some Research on your part.

There are a number of good machines on the market.

Hello new mexico,
Thankyou for the info and nice picture. Here in ontario weve got over 100 gold mines of gold mines finding the good ones what count. here is a pic of a rock with gold viens running through it. This was a tailings pile i had to pay by weight to remove. nuggets are my next goal.  I will check out that info you gave. Thankyou.

Hello Steve.     Welcome from Arizona.
     If you use the search function at the top right to search "best detector" you'll find some discussions on the subject including some specifically about what to look for when considering a "gold" detector.  A lot will depend upon your price range and what sort of bells and whistles you want.   You would definitely be doing yourself a favor to seriously consider Tesoro detectors.   They don't generally have fancy graphic displays, but they operate in the frequencies you'll be looking for, they are light weight, and they have a life-time warranty.

Thankyou for the meyal detector advice but never owned or used one lol so i need simple but quality. bells and whistles lol i need to do more reseach thanks again.

Hi Steve,

when you plan on finding even small gold nuggets you might want to look into the Fisher Gold Bug - which is an excellent all over machine but especially on natural gold.
