Go Up Go Down

hello everyone im just getting back into detecting i used to go out and sweep the coast and city parks with my uncle as a kid and just got a BH pioneer 101 to get me back into the hobby and its been fun so far

i have been researching the history of my area and it goes back to the 1850's found out there was an old post office on our family farm from around 1867-1875 and my buddys property was used as a local reunion park at the turn of the century gonna search around it some more but got some brush to remove to get to the sweet spots first, ive found alot of junk at our family farm so far but also found a couple of interesting nails the old hand made type  Grin now im just studying old aerial maps of my area from the 30's on and plat maps from the 1870's on to find nice spots to check out i plan on getting a 10" coil and the 4" coil for it

i hope to learn some tips and trick here and hope to eventually work my way up to a better unit when funds permit lol

Hello from CT. Even the older topo maps will show old buildings that might not be there now.

sounds like you're in a good area for finding interesting stuff.  Just make sure you go online and check the city and county ordinances first to see if there is any restrictions on hunting on the park.  However between your place and your buddy's place you may never need to do the park.

thanks ive already started my own log book Smiley so far it consists of plat maps from the 1870's and on and aerial photos of out property 1930's and on with locations marked with what ive found as i said my main focus right now is finding the old PO location circa 1867-1875 i have a pretty good idea where it my be just have to take the tractor over the area and brush hog it because the grass is about 2ft high and as mudflap has said i have been studying the topography maps of our property, also ive been at the local university's library archives since they have a local history section along with micro-finch copies of he local news papers dating back to 1893 i have a pretty decent idea of how the town was originally laied out good thing is my father in law was a banker and has alot of ties with current owners of properties that have or had old  houses on them and that will help with me getting onto properties with possible caches or coins plus i get to learn about the history of this town i live in
