New member from South Australia. Recently bought my first detector - a Tesoro Sand Shark for the local beaches. Found out pretty quickly that it's borderline useless anywhere else so I'm currently looking for a second detector that has discrimination capability.

Avid reader of all reviews etc and watch a lot of YouTube reviews as well. I read more than I post though.

Welcome to the forum from MelbourneAustralia
You got a very good under water detector.
I would suggest that you give yourself some time to gain experience on metal detecting and learn your machine.
In my opinion YouTube video clips are good when you cant go out detecting but often miles away from the truth.

The Sand Shark is an excellent machine....especially when used for the purpose for which it was designed which is wet beach hunting.   Get it away from there, and it will be heavy, and you will be digging a lot of "trash", but the Tesoro company has never marketed it as anything other than a beach and water machine.   On the other hand, get it in an area where there isn't much man-made trash but there is a possibility of small gold nuggets, and you just might be singing it's praises again (not the job it was designed for, but one it will do better than most "general purpose" machines).

Yeah - did wonder if it would be any use for prospecting but haven't yet had an opportunity to take it anywhere to try that out. Dug loads of crap on the beaches though - I doubt there is a tent spike left anywhere in Adelaide as I reckon I've found them all.
