I just retired after way to many years in Law Enforcement. I have not touched a detector since the eighties so I am behind the curve on new technology, but when the weather moderates, I am going to reintroduce myself to the sport. I stumbled onto this site, looking for some historical information. The threads I was reading got a bit more personal and combative than I expected so I hesitated to register. But hoping that was out of the norm I've decided to sign up and lurk awhile. I am too much of a newbie to have any info to share.

Hello, OC and welcome from Arizona.... The principles you learned in the eighties will still help you with the modern machines---especially the maxim "If it beeps, dig it". Displays are nice, but they shouldn't be what makes your decision to dig or not dig.

Hi Charlie. Welcome from CT. Don't worry about the balony talk you see once and awhile. Lots of good info here and the forum folks will help. You can find a lot of good references to other history etc here also.
