Once you scan some of the previous postings, you'll probably have plenty to post.   If nothing else, you've heard a treasure legend that may be from another part of the country that you just want to kick around.  And since Artesia was a fairly early player in oil production, there's no telling what some of those wildcatters might have left behind (relic wise if nothing else).

Dave,

These urls might generate some leads for you or might at least get you mind working on some possibilities.   The first two should help you identify and locate "ghost towns".   With the Political Graveyard site, I find that interesting leads frequently come up when you do web searches of names.  Of course, the web searches will be just the starting point.  You'll have to follow up with newspaper accounts and other research.   But I have a couple of leads I'm working in the Phoenix area by doing this.

Also, given the location of Artesia and Eddy county, you may actually want to look at Texas and Arizona as sources of leads.  A lot of "cowboys" got in trouble in west Texas and high-tailed it to Arizona......and a lot of those would have  passed through Eddy county.   Some of them may have even worked for Chisolm for a while.    The same goes for lawmen....look for ones that have both a Texas and an Arizona connection and try to figure out where they were in between.

Hope these ideas help you generate some leads.

BA

Hello David , I am also David , I am 43 and it got me sometime ago. I am living in Anthony right now , I work for a Junk yard in TX buying junk cars. Do you have a detector ? I am getting one shortly and planning on detecting the Rio Grande before the water gets to deep. Let me know i you want to pair up and split the booty. I really think the river is bountiful and an untapped treasure trove. My email is   hookupmycable@hotmail.com , take care , David
