Hey, just purchased my first metal detector that I officially own now. WHEW! I have used Bounty Hunters from Walmart and then returned them after relic hunting in Kentucky, but have "bit the bullet" and purchased a Garrett Ace 250 after researching the reviews on this unit and the low price range. But now I have returned the Ace 250 and got a Minelab X-Terra 305 and am ready to get down to business!  I am excited to be learning about my new "addiction" and hope to learn from others here in this forum!

Hello, Bubbadirect.   Welcome to THunting.com.
Now that you have your detector, take sometime getting familiar with it.  Remember the detector is a tool.  It helps to have good tools, but even the best tool will be of limited value if the operator doesn't take the time to learn to use it properly.

Down to the learning part.   A lot of the tips and techniques you learn in this forum will apply to all detectors.   Others will apply to specific types of detectors (BFO, VLF, PI).  And occasionally there will be tips that apply to specific brands or models (those are usually in the boards dealing with that particular brand).   Take some time to read some of the threads in the Beginners board and see how many of those you can apply.

Practice (hunt) often....and always find a way to have a positive hunt even if you aren't thrilled with what you're digging up.
