Go Up Go Down

Greetings from Michigan!

Well I'm finally making my first post after lurking here for a couple of weeks.  I've caught the treasure hunting bug.  Ever since I used my fathers old Radio Shack metal detector a couple of weeks ago and found $0.29 (mostly pennies) around an old campsite, I can't help but think how fun it would be to explore other sights looking for goodies.  Sor far the Ace 250 has my attention but haven't made the plunge on it yet because I am unsure about some of the wet sand stuff I'm seeing (that and I still need to convince the wife how awesome it is  Grin).

In addition to my new treasure hunting hobby, my father and I usually do some recreational gold prospecting here in the UP of Michigan.  We have found a little bit of color and do better each time out but will certainly never get rich from it (or break even for that matter).  I just enjoy the outdoors and time with family.

I look forward to interacting a bit more on these boards as I continue to learn more about this fun hobby.

Jason

Hey Jason Welcome from Texas

While you are waiting to tell the wife you want to join the ranks of treasure hunters, read up on the other detectors for beginners that have been reviewed here. The 250 has always been my first recommendation but the last few days I have been testing out a Tesoro Silver and so far like it so my first choice might change soon

Seldom

Howdy Jason.....welcome from Arizona......search "best metal detector" and you'll see what other members have been saying.  As seldom says, the Ace 250 has a very strong following, but the Tesoros and the Teknetic Delta have been coming on strong lately as has the Fisher F-4.   And, if you can swing the price or buy it used, don't leave out the Minelab Xterras.

Hello from a yooper living with the trolls(anyone that lives S. of the Mackinaw Bridge).  I've always wanted to try a little gold prospecting in the U.P..  But I've never made time for it.  Spent lots of time digging through the silver and copper mines of the Copper Country.   I plan on doing a little MD up up there in August.
Good Luck
