Hello, recently began to metal detect seriously here in east texas. Finally seem to have a handle on what my Etrac is trying to tell me and my most recent good find is a confederate Calvary officers coat button.

I have a few finds that I have no idea what they are and hope somebody wiser can help.

Welcome from a Texan living in exile.   If you haven't already done so, post those mystery finds over on our "What is it?" board.   Just make sure to include something we can use to tell the size (like a ruler or a common coin).  And if the item is small or has small print use a good camera with a macro setting.
