I am new to this site and to metal detecting but not to treasure hunting. I live in north western North Dakota, about 45 miles from the canadian boarder and treasure hunting here all comes down to history. Antiques and artifacts are mostly what I hunt around here but there are so many old abandoned farms, towns, school houses and churches that I figured I should get into metal detecting. I have not yet bought a detector and I was wondering if anyone has any advice on a good one for a beginner. Round About Round About

 Hello and  Welcome Franklin4

Ya picked a great site here and the folks are awesome!

A beginner machine that I like, is the GARRETT ACE 250 $212.00, with extra goodies & free shipping. I recently bought one and love it! If interested, will give ya the link to where I got mine along with its extra goodies.

I am really glad I found this site. I have been looking at the ace 250 and by description it seems to match up to what I am after but I have been looking for some input from an owner/opperator and yes I would like to check out the link where you got yours.
Thank you.

Franklin, use the Advanced Search feature at the top of the page and search the entire forum for "best beginner detector" and for "ace 250".....you'll find recent discussions to help you decide if the Ace 250 is the one for you or one of the other brands like a Tesoro.

Once you've gone through a couple of those threads, you may still have some specific questions...Post them and I'm sure someone will answer quickly.

Looking forward to hearing from you often.

Welcome to the forum, My advice is read all you can about detectors, make a decision on what you want the unit to find. Maybe find others in your area and see what they are using.  Good luck

Does anyone know anything about the Treasure Hunter deep search XJ9-3019 or XJ9- 3050, I am told that they are advanced detectors and may not be ideal for beginners but I am very interested in any info I could get from owners/opperator of this detector, thanks. Detecting
