Go Up Go Down

Hello all,

I'm interested in learning to build my own metal detector and coils.  I have a good background in electronics and have built other electronic projects.  I have had a lifelong interest in rock collecting and want to branch out into gold and meteorite hunting.  Any help and directing hands would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Welcome from Washington state. Their is a thread on one of the boards with a gent selling kits for a Surf PI 1.2. In the top right hand corner of the main page search "surf pi". I am going to get one on payday.

Good luck

Sean

I'm wanting to do this as much on my own as possible, but I'm just starting to read also.

Welcome from New Mexico.     If you want a PI unit, you couldn't buy the parts for what he is asking.

You get a Professional PCB.    Well documented project.

Hell, I'm selling my beer cans to get one. LOL!

Sue, you're in a prime area for meteorite hunting.  Have you done any hunts like that yet?

Not yet, but that's why I originally bought a detector. I visually looked for one that my mother in law told me about hearing the boom, seeing something with smoke and a sizzle sound going over her house one afternoon and saying it just missed her trees. Later some farmers a few miles away found an odd rock in their field, carried it around in their pickup for a couple of years - farmer show & tell type thing. They finally showed it to someone who thought meteorite and it was ID'd as one. It was sold & named the Vermillion.
