I have never built a metal detector.

I just use them.

know a lot about puting one togather.

@Sue - yes, hunthing for raw gold nuggets is my prime interest. South africa as many know is rich in gold, which is mostly obtained from deep mines in an area known as the Witwatersrand. Before the huge goldrush there round the 1890's, nuggets had been found all throughout the country, and many smaller mines were abandoned to join in the main rush. So, I suspect many a nugget lays along dried and flowing river beds. We shall see. Grin

Hi xeronium, I've read how people, searching for nuggets, sometimes move the big rocks/small boulders, along river or wash areas, out of the way as nuggets have become lodged under them. If nuggets were found once, odds are good that there are more. Definitely a worthwhile project that you have planned, I think. Sounds fun. Sue
