Welcome from Texas

Your detector is one of your most important tools. Get the best your budget will allow and up grade as time goes on.

Welcome from Arizona.....As Seldom says, take the time to figure out what serves your needs best and then buy the best your budget will allow for.   By the way, a lot of times that means buying used.   There are lots of good used detectors out there stuck in people's closets because they never took the time to learn how to use them properly...or they gave up when they didn't find the retirement cache on their first or second time out.

Welcome aboard from Australia. Both of these guys are on the ball with their advice but I would add one more thing. Join the GPAA so you can learn where the gold is. You can drive out to a spot, walk around for days and never find a nugget or speck of gold because you are in an area that doesn't contain gold. Then, after some research, you can go to a spot where gold is both likely to be and has been found. That's where you'll probably find your first nugget. For information on the GPAA:

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Would a 6000 DI Pro work for nugget shooting?  Some of this area is volcanic rock.
