Hello everyone.  I am new to this forum but have been MD and prospecting for some time.  I have 5 years of college in Geology and mining so if anyone needs any help with that aspect of the hobby I am glad to help.  I am also a electronics technician and one of my pursuits now is building quality DIY Metal Detectors.  I work hard to make a living and it is hard for me and many others to allocate thousands towards the latest in PI and VLF detectors so I like to test and build designs that can be built relatively cheaply and still do the job of a very expensive detector.  So if anyone is interested in working on similar topics and willing to share with the greater community I am all for it.

highaltitude .   It is clear that you know how to handle the necessary parts to build a PI detector . Let me draw your attention to the DBP 2010 PI metal detector  . I have built two of them and I never have found a better unit . Tremendous depth . Two filters to discriminate .   Eugene  or I can get you a complete set of building schematics if you are interested  ,  Cornelius

cornelius, I would love to have a copy of the plans for that detector.

I will be posting some of my simple detector circuits in the near future as well.  Some are new designs some are mods from other individuals open plans.

For the next step I picture using the GNU Radio project which is a software defined radio/dsp for the basis of an advance detector.  With a software defined transmitter/receiver one could change frequencies, pulse widths, modulations, power, etc on the fly.  The DSPs could also detect a much fainter signal than one can hear in an analog circuit.  It would be possible to have vlf/pi hybrid detector.  Or perhaps one that runs through a range of frequencies and pulse widths per scan.

One could also do discrimination programs in the dsp per location or type of material being searched.  Anyways this project will take a while to fully implement as I have a day job. Smiley
