White's and Bounty Hunter

Go Up Go Down

Just wanted to say hello and look forward to being a member.  I'm a very novice TH'er, but enjoy beach hunting and coing hunting.  Now that I am semi-retired, I will have more time to do what I enjoy and am looking forward to hearing, reading, learning more about the hobby and other enthusiasts like myself.  I use a couple of detectors (white's and bounty hunter) and am someday looking forward to upgrading, but for my purposes now these work okay.  Hope you all are staying warm and I hope to hear from the group.

Thanks for the welcome!  Galveston Island is a beautiful place.  Are there a lot of restrictions on treasure hunting there?  I have a friend that has a condo there and has invited me down.  It's about 18 degrees here....so I'm ready to check it out.

What type of treasure hunting do you enjoy doing?
Thanks Dinger, warm weather....right now I've forgotten what that is like.  After living in/around Dallas for a number of years we moved back to Indiana.  I forgot what winters were like, even though this one hasn't been terribly bad, and kinda hard to metal detect through the snow!

Do you hunt in the water or on the banks?  I enjoy beach hunting, but my units don't handle the salt well.  Dry sand I do okay.  Was at Sanibel a couple of years ago, along with picking up a ton of shells, I found a few coins and Miscellaneous other stuff but nothing too significant.....but it was all fun.  The wife had to call me in like a kid with a new toy.  Just something so relaxing and exciting at the same time when you never know what you might find.

Stay war and keep enjoying the hunt!

I am mainly a cache and relic hunter but will hit the beach from time to time. Right now we have few rules about MDING but that will change soon if the hunters don't start respecting the parks and school yards.

Thanks Luc, appreciate the welcome and look forward to getting to hear more about the fun others are having.

Have a good one!
What kine of relics have you found?  I would think with the history of Galveston area there would be some interesting things found by those who do their homework.  What kind of rules are there?  I'm sure, like everything else, there are those who abuse the priveledge of MDing.  My few experiences on the beaches have been, dig, clean up and haul off the trash, and refill the holes so someone doesn't break a body part when the step into them unexpectingly.  What I wouldn't give for some of that sand to dig in.  This hardpacked clay we have here is such that in the summer you could use a jack hammer on it.  Guess there are pro's and con's where ever you are.

Take care!
I think I tagged some of my response on Luc's response.  What kind of problems are they having with the parks and school yards?  Doesn't that aggrevate you when a small number ruins things for the many that enjoy the hobby.

gooddog,

welcome to Thunting.  Hope you are staying warm in Indiana.  Was stationed at Ft BH in Indianapolis years ago so I know what the weather can be like.  Am currently in Harrisburg, PA and enjoy using my Shadow X2 whenerever I can get out.  I love hitting the beaches (especially after Spring Break!) and the play grounds at elementary schools.  Good luck to you in your MDing.

Bob

Thanks Balto Bob for the nice welcome.  We are about an hour and a half north of Indy, and I'm sure you do know what the weather is like.  Getting the dogs to go outside takes some real bribery...and me, I don't do cold anymore.  I am ready to get out and hit some of the parks in the area.  Since I'm not native of Fort Wayne, I've got some research to do in the next few weeks to get a game plan together.  All I seem to be doing in this cold is sleep and eat....which definately isn't helping my waistline....so I need to get working on something to get me moving.

Stay warm and hope you have a great year MDing.
